How the subsidy is built up
- First 2 kW × ₹30,000₹60,000
- Next 1 kW × ₹18,000₹18,000
- Above 3 kW₹0
₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, hard cap ₹78,000. A 5 kW or 10 kW system still receives ₹78,000 — not more.
02 / Assumptions
Every number, and why it is that number.
Savings estimates are easy to inflate. These are the inputs we model with, published so you can argue with them.
| Item | Standard we specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Generation yield | 4.0 units per kW per day, annual average | Latur sees strong irradiance, but monsoon weeks and dust pull the yearly average down. We model the average, not the best month. |
| Tariff | ₹8.50 per unit by default, editable to your own slab rate | Your saving is worth exactly what your marginal unit costs. A wrong tariff is the single biggest source of inflated savings claims. |
| Bill offset cap | 85% of the bill, maximum | Fixed charges, night load and meter minimums never disappear. Anyone promising a zero bill is quoting a fantasy. |
| System cost | ₹58,000–65,000 per kW installed, before subsidy | Covers ALMM modules, inverter, galvanised structure, protection, earthing and labour — the parts a cheap quote leaves out. |
| Subsidy | PM Surya Ghar: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the 3rd, capped at ₹78,000 | The slab structure means a 3 kW system captures the full central subsidy; going bigger adds cost with no extra grant. |
| Roof requirement | About 100 sq ft of shadow-free roof per kW | Sizing is hard-capped by your usable area, so the estimate cannot recommend a system your roof physically cannot hold. |
| Degradation & escalation | 0.5% module degradation a year, 3% annual tariff escalation | Panels produce a little less each year while grid power costs a little more — both belong in a 25-year figure. |

04 / FAQ
Questions about the numbers.
It is indicative. It uses average yield and your tariff, so it is usually within 10–15% of the final figure. Actual sizing follows a load study and a site survey where we log shading through the day.
Two caps apply: your shadow-free roof area at roughly 100 sq ft per kW, and the point beyond which extra capacity only exports at low credit instead of offsetting your own consumption.
Under PM Surya Ghar the subsidy is credited to your bank account after commissioning and inspection. You pay the full installed cost, then receive the grant. We file and follow the claim for you.
It assumes routine cleaning and a scheduled AMC visit. It does not assume an inverter replacement, which typically falls outside the payback window on the makes we specify.
