04 / Specification

What goes into the bill of materials, and why.

Main panel

Standard we specify

IP-rated sheet-steel enclosure, bus-bar sized to incomer rating with fault-current withstand

Why it matters

The main panel carries the full plant load; under-sizing the bus-bar is a fire risk under fault conditions.
Feeder protection

Standard we specify

Schneider / Legrand / Havells-class MCCB, selectively coordinated with upstream and downstream devices

Why it matters

Coordinated protection trips the nearest breaker to a fault, not the main incomer — keeps the rest of the plant running.
Motor starters

Standard we specify

DOL or star-delta starters, or VFDs, sized to motor FLC with thermal overload protection

Why it matters

An overload relay set to the wrong current either nuisance-trips or fails to protect the motor windings.
Cabling

Standard we specify

XLPE/PVC armoured power cable on galvanised cable trays, power and control segregated

Why it matters

Segregating power and control cabling avoids induced noise on sensor and PLC wiring.
Power factor correction

Standard we specify

Capacitor banks sized to measured reactive load, with detuned reactors where VFDs are present

Why it matters

Uncorrected power factor draws penalty charges from the DISCOM on a commercial connection.
Earthing

Standard we specify

IS 3043 earthing, separate pits for body earth and electronic/VFD earth

Why it matters

Mixing power and electronic earths on sensitive drive equipment causes nuisance faults and drive damage.
